Government to launch new green homes scheme

The government has announced plans to launch a scheme which has been created to reduce carbon emissions produced by households in the UK.

Environment secretary Hilary Benn unveiled the new proposals for the Green Homes Service, which will give UK energy customers advice on how they can reduce their waste and receive incentives from major energy companies.

The initiative is also set to offer households an energy audit so people can discover what changes they can make to their property to improve their general energy efficiency.

Commenting on the new service, which will be officially launched in April next year, Mr Benn said: "When it comes to cutting your carbon footprint, the old adage 'there's no place like home' really is true. We need to make this as easy as possible for people to do."

Mr Benn's announcement has come after he unveiled proposals in the government's new climate change bill last week, including plans to cut carbon emissions in the UK by 60 per cent by 2050.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18359954-ADNFCR
